Administrative/Regulatory and Municipal Law
Administrative/Regulatory Law
South Carolina has recognized the need to develop a more business-friendly environment to attract and retain industry and entrepreneurial investments in the state. Turner Padget's business clients operate in a world of complex governmental regulations, both state and federal, that often determine the level of success that their business operations can achieve. Our attorneys are frequently often called upon to represent our business clients before Administrative Law Judges, licensing officials and various agencies that control and permit business activity.
Our attorneys assist our clients in the following ways.
- Developing business plans that comply with governmental regulations, licensing requirements and other regulatory considerations.
- Serving as lobbyists to advocate legislative and regulatory change on our clients behalf.
- Communicating the latest rulings, legislative changes and regulatory rulings in the governmental arena.
- Leading professional associations and trade organizations in focused local, state and regional governmental affairs.
- Monitoring legislative and regulatory activities to forecast adjustments in client business activities.
- Serving on chamber boards and ad hoc committees to advocate for client sponsored changes.
- Representing client businesses in licensing, disciplinary and other administrative hearings.
Turner Padget’s knowledge of the insurance industry is the backbone of the firm’s experience. We have extensive skill in insurance legislation and regulatory issues and have appeared before legislative bodies and officials on behalf of the American Insurance Association and other similar trade organizations. We also have wide-ranging experience before other regulatory agencies and municipal officials involving licensing, permitting and certification actions. Turner Padget is positioned to assist its business clients in navigating the often complex regulatory system that effects business decisions.
Municipal Law
Turner Padget has provided advice and counsel to local governments and their attorneys for more than 25 years. By direct representation in litigation and appeals, by appointment as general municipal counsel, and by special assignments from local governments attorneys, our lawyers have helped local governments deal with today's far-ranging and often specialized legal issues.
From A (as in annexation) to Z (as in zoning), our extensive experience in matters affecting local governments includes liability under the Tort Claims Act and Section 1983, contracts and contractual liability, employment and personnel law, business license issues, the Freedom of Information Act, governmental powers and procedures, procurement and purchasing, intergovernmental disputes, code enforcement, property transactions and acquisitions, development agreements and utility agreements and acquisitions.
