General Biography
J. Munford Scott, Jr., special counsel, is a native of Florence
and was born on January 23, 1945. Before joining Turner
Padget in 2006, he was in the private practice of law in
Florence, South Carolina since 1972. Munford is certified as
a Tax Law Specialist and an Estate Planning Specialist by
the South Carolina Supreme Court and is a member of the
Institute of Business Appraisers.
He is listed in the Tax Lawyers Section of the Best
Lawyers in America and has an AV rating from Martindale
& Hubbell.
Munford has written and spoken in the areas of Taxation,
Estate Planning, Probate and Business Valuation. He is a
fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel. Munford is a
member of the Christian Legal Society and the South Carolina
Bar, and has served as Chairman of the South Carolina Bar
Association Tax Section, as well as Chairman of the Tax Law
Specialization Advisory Board.
Munford was an attorney with the tax division of the U.S.
Department of Justice from 1970 to 1972 and served in the
South Carolina General Assembly during 1978 and 1979. He has
been an Adjunct Lecturer on Basic and Advanced Federal
Taxation at Francis Marion University.
