Bettis is a litigator. His practice focuses primarily on products liability, but also includes catastrophic personal injury defense as well as complex business litigation. He represents large manufacturers, small businesses and individuals in state and federal courts throughout South Carolina and Georgia.
After his first year of law school, Bettis joined Turner Padget as a summer associate where he discovered his interest in litigation. After law school, he furthered that interest by serving as a law clerk to Senior United States District Judge Joseph F. Anderson, Jr. Judge Anderson taught him that the most effective trial attorneys are as good on brief as they are in front of juries. After completing his one year clerkship, Bettis dove straight into trial practice and gained immediate and significant experience through his active participation in three complex, multi-week product liability trials.
As the leader of the Firm’s expansion into Georgia, Bettis now splits time between offices on Broad Street in historic downtown Augusta, Georgia and on Main Street in Columbia. Thus, he is well-positioned to effectively represent clients on both sides of the Savannah River.
Bettis was born and raised in Edgefield County, just across the river from Augusta. He and his wife, Melissa, reside on a farm with their son, Beau, and dog, Lilly. When not practicing law, Bettis can be found outside – hunting, fishing or playing golf.
