General Biography
David has 16 years of experience successfully defending construction defect claims, personal injury lawsuits, business litigation, claims against homeowner associations, and insurance coverage opinions. He has significant experience with jury and non-jury trials in state and federal courts, appellate work, binding and non-binding arbitration and mediation, and pre-trial practice. In addition, David has been certified as South Carolina state court mediator since 2004 and has mediated numerous matters for other parties. David has also handled admiralty claims, a variety of commercial real estate and business transactions, and matters before the South Carolina Administrative Law Judge Division.

In the construction arena, David has represented numerous general contractors, subcontractors, and product manufacturers in significant litigation, including EIFS claims, warranty claims, and class actions. In the personal injury litigation, he has a successful trial record. His resume includes obtaining summary judgment for an international retailer in a lawsuit arising out of the abduction and murder of an Horry County resident and successfully settling a lawsuit against a video poker operator arising out of the death of a 10-day old child while her mother played video poker.

David is a resident in the Charleston office. He is a 1990 magna cum laude graduate of Furman University (B.A. Political Science) and a 1993 graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law. At Furman, he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Furman’s 1988 NCAA I-AA National Champion football team. He has served as the Charleston Furman Club president since 2000 and is currently a member of the Furman University Paladin Club Board of Directors and the Furman Sports Network’s television and radio crew for Paladin football games. David recently ended a five-year commitment as a member of Furman’s Alumni Board of Directors.

At USC Law School, David was a member of The Order of Wig and Robe and a member of the student editorial board for the A.B.A. Real Property and Trust Journal. He is a member of the Charleston County, South Carolina and American Bar Associations.
