David G. Fawcett

David has been associated with the firm since 1985. He brings an intuitive perspective and many years of experience, not only as an attorney, but also as an owner and operator of a large, closely held beverage business and as an academic professional. His ownership and management experience of a beverage business with revenues over $100 million has allowed him the opportunity to experience first-hand the practical aspects of operating, acquiring, merging and financing business enterprises that few lawyers closely understand. Further, as guest lecturer in tax and accounting at the University of Texas McCombs School of Business, David stays up-to-date on the latest legislative and business trends, and approaches his client work with an academic perspective as well as a lawyer’s point-of-view.

David’s legal practice currently focuses primarily on representing the owners of closely held businesses, focusing on their daily operational and financing needs, and acquisition and disposition of assets. As a result, he has extensive experience in assisting clients with partnership and S corporation establishment and related issues. David also advises clients regarding estate planning and business succession matters.

David has been involved in numerous business transactions ranging from daily operational issues to significant purchase and sales agreements. He has also assisted clients with franchising agreements and in litigation matters involving insurance premium taxes as well as alcoholic beverage taxes and licensing.

Over the years, David has been involved with numerous professional associations, including the South Carolina Beer Association, the South Carolina Trucking Association and the University of South Carolina Medical Partnership Board. He is continues to maintain his Florida certificate as a certified public accountant and his law license in Georgia as well as South Carolina.

“Operating and managing my own large, closely held businesses gives me a special rapport with my business clients because I have a first-hand understanding of the business and legal challenges they face.”
