G. Troy Thames
Troy Thames began his professional career as a soldier, serving in the U.S. Army as a field artillery officer until deciding to return to school to obtain his law degree. Since graduating from law school, he has practiced exclusively in the lowcountry of South Carolina and has extensive courtroom experience in the counties comprising the lower part of the state. Troy’s practice concentrates in the area of general civil litigation, with an emphasis on construction litigation and insurance law. He is also experienced in maritime law and trucking/transportation litigation.
Troy’s caseload typically consists of construction litigation cases, as well as various personal injury and business matters. Both areas have provided him with ample opportunities to hone his skills in the courtroom and in alternative dispute resolution, including both mediation and arbitration. Troy’s courtroom experience has given him a unique ability to quickly identify the issues most important to a client, and to advise them as to the best way to handle their case.
In addition to being an experienced litigator with Turner Padget, Troy currently serves in the U.S. Army Reserve as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps and is a recent graduate of the Army’s Command and General Staff School. Troy is also the son of a general contractor, which combined with an engineering background, gives Troy a unique appreciation for the challenges and issues experienced by today’s builders, designers and construction experts. He is active in the Charleston Propeller Club, an organization focused on all facets of business connected to the Port of Charleston.
