J. Brandon Hylton
Brandon Hylton began practicing law in 2002. Brandon first practiced in Anderson, S.C. before moving to Florence, S.C. and joining Turner Padget in 2005. Practicing almost exclusively in workers’ compensation defense, Brandon represents employers and insurance companies on work-related injury claims brought by employees. He approaches each case with an understanding of the many nuances surrounding workers’ compensation in South Carolina. Brandon was born and raised in Kingstree, S.C. and enjoys hunting and fishing, along with cheering on his beloved Gamecocks. Community involvement is important to Brandon, and he is a member of the Florence Kiwanis Club and a coordinator of regional Kids Chance fundraising events. Brandon is also a member of Florence First Presbyterian Church.
“Communication is the key to a successful resolution of a workers’ compensation claim. By working closely with adjusters and employers, and keeping them informed about case developments, surprises are avoided and the workers’ compensation system becomes more predictable.”
Representative Matters
Workers’ Compensation
Represented a grocery store chain in a claim filed by an employee, who alleged bilateral shoulder injuries due to repetitive heavy lifting. Brandon understood the new reforms in the South Carolina law relating to notice and statute of limitations for repetitive trauma claims, and obtained a defense verdict barring the employee from any benefits under the South Carolina Workers’ Compensation Act.
Represented multiple insurance companies in obtaining reimbursement from the South Carolina Second Injury Fund.
Represented uninsured employers against both claimants and the South Carolina Workers’ Compensation Commission. Through negotiations, Brandon was able to obtain a favorable settlement with the claimant and a reduction in the fine for failure to have workers’ compensation insurance with the South Carolina Workers’ Compensation Commission.
