M. Scott Taylor
Scott Taylor is a trial lawyer who has practiced law in South Carolina for his entire legal career, representing the interests of a variety of clients, ranging from multinational corporations to local businesses, defending personal injury and product liability claims. Scott has a vast amount of trial experience, having tried numerous cases to verdict in South Carolina’s state and federal courts. He has also handled the appeals of many of his cases, and has represented clients before the South Carolina Court of Appeals, the South Carolina Supreme Court and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. Scott believes that each new case represents an opportunity to utilize his knowledge and understanding of litigation to help his client realize a beneficial and efficient resolution to the matter. While each case contains unique challenges throughout the litigation process, close work with his client insures that their objectives and goals are always the paramount focus of any case resolution.
Scott has a complex civil litigation practice, focusing on several industries and practice areas, one of which includes representing the interests of the insurance industry in litigation. He regularly represents clients in claims of insurance coverage and bad faith, and he defends individuals and companies on behalf of their insurance carriers in underlying personal injury and business tort cases.
Additionally, Scott represents the interests of product manufacturers and designers in litigation involving product liability, medical device and pharmaceutical litigation. Scott’s construction litigation experience includes representing parties ranging from material and product suppliers to general contractors and subcontractors. Having personally worked in the construction industry prior to attending law school, Scott is often able to bring real life perspective to his clients’ cases. Finally, he has extensive experience representing individuals and businesses in professional liability litigation, including claims of professional negligence and fiduciary violations.
“Effective lawyers must be able to balance their roles as both problem-solvers and advocates for their clients. There is a time in all litigation for a lawyer to provide independent assessment of the case and the client’s options to resolve that matter. There also comes the time when the lawyer must take on the role of an effective and aggressive advocate to bring the client’s choices to fruition. The ability to balance these two roles is the key to effectively representing my clients.”
