Richard L. Hinson

For over 21 years, Richard Hinson has practiced in the area of civil litigation with an emphasis on personal injury and insurance coverage matters.  For the first decade of his practice, Richard tried scores of jury trials and non-jury matters in both state and federal courts, obtaining favorable results for his clients. Richard became certified as a mediator and arbitrator over 12 years ago, and since then, has served as a mediator, arbitrator, or special referee on a regular basis, assisting attorneys and their clients in the resolution of many different types of complicated disputes. Within the next year, Richard anticipates he will have served as a neutral in nearly 1,000 matters state-wide.

Richard’s clients appreciate his expertise, promptness and efficiencies. In addition, he has been a part of the Florence community for over two decades and is very knowledgeable about the area, jury venues and other attorneys. Clients hire Richard not only for his experience, but also because of the courtesies shown to all parties and very creative ways of helping people resolve their disputes. Most of Richard’s dispute resolution practice consists of repeat business.

Richard is a lifelong resident of South Carolina and has been active in community and law-related activities for years. He is a past president of the Florence County Bar Association, former chairman of the Florence County Registration and Elections Commission, past member of the Executive Committee of the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys’ Association; and former member of the South Carolina Bar ADR Section Council.  He currently serves on the South Carolina Supreme Court Commission on  Alternative Dispute Resolution, where he chairs both the Programs Committee and  Mediator and Arbitrator Committee. Richard is a member of Central United Methodist Church and actively volunteers for The Citadel Foundation, a non-profit charitable organization that provides funding exclusively for his alma mater.

Richard maintains the highest lawyer peer-review rating recognized by Martindale-Hubbell, and has also been selected by his peers for listing in Best Lawyers in America in the area of Mediation for the past four years consecutively.
