James H. “Jamey” Goldin represents clients in regulatory, administrative, and government relations matters while also maintaining an active litigation practice. Jamey provides counsel to insurance, energy, utility, and local government clients. He represents clients before the South Carolina Supreme Court, other levels of state and federal trial and appellate courts, the South Carolina Department of Insurance, the South Carolina Public Service Commission, and as a registered lobbyist before the South Carolina General Assembly.

Following law school, Jamey served the South Carolina House of Representatives as Chief Counsel (2014-2017) and Assistant Staff Counsel (2011-2014) to the Labor, Commerce and Industry Committee, as Committee Counsel to the South Carolina Public Utilities Review Committee, as a screening attorney for the Judicial Merit Selection Commission, and as an attorney to the Review and Oversight Commission on the South Carolina Ports Authority.   

Jamey lives in Columbia with his wife, Julie, and their daughter, Taylor. He is passionate about the outdoors and tries to spend as much time as he can afield. 

Representative Matters

Bad Faith Litigation

  • Sought and obtained a dismissal of an insurance bad faith lawsuit for defendant insurer based upon lack of privity of contract on the part of the plaintiff.

Administrative, Regulatory and Governmental Affairs

  • Successfully represented insurers, agents, and agencies in matters before the South Carolina Department of Insurance.
  • Provides strategic counsel to attorneys and clients on a wide range of public policy matters, with a focus on insurance and public utilities law.

  • Davis v. Leatherman, 419 S.C. 44, 796 S.E.2d 137 (2017).
  • Christian v. S.C. Dep't of Labor Licensing & Regulation, No. CA 3:12-1382-JFA-PJG, 2012 WL 7761204 (D.S.C. Dec. 6, 2012), report and recommendation adopted, No. 3:12-CV-1382-JFA, 2013 WL 1101593 (D.S.C. Mar. 15, 2013).
