Troy Thames was honored with the U.S. Military’s Bronze Star Medal in appreciation for his heroic service while engaged in action in Iraq.  Mr. Thames is a shareholder in the firm’s Charleston office, and an active duty major in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps. He is returning home to South Carolina this week after serving a year of active duty, including service in Iraq for the last six months.

“We are extremely proud of Troy for his outstanding service to our country,” said Edward W. Laney, IV, chief executive officer of Turner Padget. “It is his high moral standards, leadership and work ethic that distinguish him not only as a valued member of our country’s military, but also as a lawyer. He undoubtedly brought the U.S. Army the same level of professionalism that he brings to his clients here in South Carolina.”

Mr. Thames is a recent graduate of the Army’s Command and General Staff School, and he also graudated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

The Bronze Star Medal is awarded to any person who, while serving in any capacity in or with the military of the U.S. after December 6, 1941, distinguished himself or herself by heroic or meritorious achievement or service, not involving participation in aerial flight, while engaged in an action against an enemy of the U.S.; while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an opposing foreign force; or while serving with friendly foreign forces engaged in an armed conflict against an opposing armed force in which the U.S. is not a belligerent party.

Mr. Thames’ legal practice concentrates in the areas of general civil litigation, with an emphasis on construction litigation and insurance law. He is also experienced in maritime law and trucking/transportation litigation.
