"New Rule Benefits Military Spouse Attorneys," South Carolina Lawyers Weekly

Posted On May 05, 2016

In an article published on April 26, 2016, Brittany Boykin discusses a new rule taking effect that will allow military spouse lawyers to practice law in South Carolina without taking the bar exam. The new rule will take effect May 16 and is based on a model pushed by the Military Spouse J.D. Network. It allows lawyers to obtain a limited certificate of admission. Boykin, a military spouse herself, called the adoption of the rule “a refreshing acknowledgement of an unfortunate problem.” She added, “Military spouses make so many sacrifices; certainly a fair opportunity to pursue their profession is a reasonable accommodation. It’s time to enact licensing accommodations for military spouse attorneys across the U.S.” Subscribers may access the full article here.
