William E. Lawson

Ed Lawson is a litigator and mediator with Turner Padget Graham and Laney. He is frequently recognized by his peers for his leadership in the practice and his commitment to the legal profession in South Carolina. He represents corporations, businesses, and individuals in construction and insurance-related matters. He also enjoys a thriving mediation practice, having mediated more than 2,000 cases since being certified by the South Carolina Supreme Court in 1996.

Originally from Spartanburg, South Carolina, Ed graduated from East Tennessee State University and received his law degree from the University of South Carolina. He began his legal career as the Assistant County Attorney in Spartanburg. Next, Ed moved to Horry County to work with a small civil defense firm for seven years. There, he developed his litigation skills in defending auto injury claims, premises liability claims, and commercial claims. Opening his own firm in 1990, Ed took on all facets of business ownership and honed additional skills for 17 years. In 2007, Ed took advantage of the opportunity to merge his firm with Turner Padget, where he was made Shareholder in charge of the Myrtle Beach office.

Ed is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, a current member of the Coastal American Inn of Court, the Defense Research Institute, and the South Carolina Bar. He is also an active member of the South Carolina Defense Trial Lawyers Association and has served on its board in the recent past.

Ed is active in the Conway community, which he has called home for the 41 years. He serves as a deacon, elder, and trustee of Kingston Presbyterian Church. He is married to Alys C. Lawson, who is also an active member of the Conway community and a former mayor and city council member. The couple has successfully raised two children, Kate and Paul, both attorneys.
