Turner Padget’s client-driven expansion into Charlotte was featured in the Charlotte Business Journal, highlighting the firm’s disciplined approach to growth and its focus on building long-term client relationships rather than rapid scale. On January 28, the firm formally announced the opening of its Charlotte office in SouthPark, led by incoming Shareholder David A. Luzum, a Charlotte-based commercial litigator, alongside Ben Calhoun, a Shareholder in the firm’s Workplace Law Group who is relocating as part of the launch team.
Turner Padget’s leadership emphasized that the move formalizes work Turner Padget has handled in North Carolina for years, as client needs in the state have grown beyond what could be supported solely from neighboring markets. As Chief Executive Officer C. Pierce Campbell told the Charlotte Business Journal, “For many, many years, we have a number of our attorneys who are licensed in North Carolina and who have represented our clients in North Carolina, but those clients’ needs have grown and expanded such that we believe that having boots on the ground in Charlotte is really critical.”
Pierce described Charlotte as a natural choice for the firm’s first North Carolina office, citing its role as both a regional and national business hub and the importance of being present in North Carolina courts and boardrooms on a daily basis. Initially, the Charlotte office will focus on litigation, reflecting the experience of its first attorneys, with transactional services expected to follow as client demand continues to grow.
The Charlotte Business Journal also highlighted Turner Padget’s long-standing, relationship-driven growth philosophy. Operating for nearly a century, the firm has expanded steadily across the Southeast with leadership emphasizing that each new market entry is guided by client needs, not geography alone. As Pierce noted, “Our growth strategy is always client-focused. We don’t believe in growth for growth’s sake.”
Benadded that his relocation to Charlotte strengthens relationships with institutional clients already operating in the region, particularly in workers’ compensation defense and insurance-related matters. David echoedthat focus, emphasizing that client trust and rapport will drive the office’s growth.
Turner Padget currently has multiple attorneys licensed in North Carolina and serves clients across industries, including financial services, real estate, and complex commercial litigation.
