Columbia, S.C., May 18, 2026 –– Turner Padget is deeply saddened to announce the passing of our friend and colleague, Thomas “Thom” Charles Salane, on May 1, 2026.

Thom devoted more than five decades to the firm, building a legacy as one of South Carolina’s preeminent insurance attorneys. A highly respected litigator and influential lobbyist, he played a key role in shaping insurance law in the state and served as general counsel to South Carolina’s automobile insurance residual market mechanisms.

Known for both his skill and professionalism, Thom was a trusted advocate for his clients and a valued colleague to all who had the privilege of working alongside him.

“Thom was not only an exceptional lawyer, but a person of integrity, warmth, and generosity,” said Pierce Campbell, Chief Executive Officer of Turner Padget. “He had a lasting impact on our firm, the legal profession, and the many people he mentored and supported throughout his career. He will be deeply missed.”

Beyond his practice, Thom was committed to serving his community, including leadership roles with the Free Medical Clinic and volunteer work supporting underserved populations in the Columbia area.

Thom is survived by his wife, Linda; his sons, Jeff and Matt; and his grandchildren, Wren, Desmond, and Sterling.

A Celebration of Life will be held on September 20, 2026.
